Michiana Scrappers Baseball Coaching Staff -2018

Todd Marazita - 22U Field Manager

Todd will begin his 3rd year with the Michiana Scrappers Organization.  Todd was the 17U/18U Coach in 2013 and prior to that was the President/Coach of the Michiana Clippers.  The Clippers were one of the top teams in the country, with a 295-75-2 record over a span of 8 years.  Coach Marazita also is the Hitting Coach for the Saints of Holy Cross College.



Mike Logan – 17U Black Field Manager

Mike Logan, Head Coach 17U Scrappers, is a 1996 graduate of Butler University, where he lettered two years as a linebacker on their Nationally Ranked Division II Football Team. After completing his collegiate career, Mike was hired as teacher and coach for the Middlebury Community Schools in 1998. Since then, Mike has held many positions on both the football and baseball staffs. Mike is married to the former Karin Metcalf and they have two boys, Brock a senior at IPFW University in Fort Wayne and member of the baseball team and Nicholas a sophomore at Northridge HS.

Mike was the Northridge HS JV Baseball Coach (1988-1990), Varsity Assistant Coach (1991-1992) before being named the Head Baseball Coach (1993-2003). While at Northridge his teams won the NLC (1994, 1995 & 1996) and Sectional Championship (1994 & 2002). Mike was the NLC Baseball Coach of the Year in 1994 and 1995 and the Region C Indiana Coach of the Year in 2002. Mike has coached 5 All State players, 10 Academic All State players, 2 North/South All Star players and seen 19 former players continue their playing careers in college.

In 2008 Mike began coaching with the Scrapper organization leading the 13U Scrappers in their inaugural year. In 2009 he became an Assistant Coach for the 16U Scrappers and in 2010 was named Head Coach for the 17U team. The 17U team finished 16 out of 60 teams at the CABA World Series in Euclid, OH.  Mike and Karen have 2 boys Nick-(14) and Brock (former Scrapper Player and now a Freshman at IPFW University playing baseball).


Steve Schumacher – 17U White Field Manager

This will be Steve's 4th year as a Head Coach for the Scrappers.  Prior to being named a Head Coach, Schumacher worked under Mike Logan for several years.  Steve provides a solid background in the game of baseball and has been a tremendous asset to the organization.



Brian Blondell – 15U Field Manager

Brian Blondell, Director of Player Operations, will also be the 15U Field Manager, is a 1998 graduate of Bethel College, and was an NCCAA All-American during his junior and senior years as a pitcher. After completing his collegiate career Brian coached at South Bend Washington High School as the Head Assistant. He left Washington after four years to become the pitching coach at Bethel College where he groomed 2 pitchers selected for All American honors, one who was a 2nd Round Draft Pick in the MLB draft and is now in the Majors pitching for the Cleveland Indians. The Bethel team posted a school record 44 wins that season. In 2005, Blondell took the head coaching position at South Bend Riley, and held that for two years, before leaving to become the Pitching Coach at South Bend St. Joseph’s for 5 seasons and helping to lead the Indians to 1 Semi-State Appearance and 3 Sectional Titles. Currently Blondell is also the Head Assistant Coach at Elkhart Memorial HS.   Other Experiences: 5 years working at the University of Notre Dame Baseball Camps 5 years as the site director for the Midwest Baseball Winter Camps Selected as a coach for the Crossroads Classic for top Juniors in the State of Indiana (June 2010 & 2011). In 2007 was Committee Director for the Selection of the 2007 North All-Stars for the IHSBCA. Active member of the IHSBCA and ABCA for 10 years, and President of Elite Baseball Tournaments, that hosts the 15U Elite Baseball World Series. Other: Brian is married to the former Christi Whitfield a standout volleyball player at Mishawaka HS (2x State Runner-up), who then went onto Bethel College to play Volleyball, where she was on the 1998 NCCAA National Championship team 3 kids: Alexis (16); Bryce (15); Brenden (11). 



Brian Jordan – 14U Field Manager

Brian begins his 2nd full season with the Scrappers in 2018.  Jordan was the Head Coach of the Indiana Dirt Devils prior to coming over to the Scrappers Organization.  The Dirt Devils experienced tremendous success on the field with BPA World Series Championship and Runner Up finishes.  


Mason Love – 14U Orange Field Manager

Mason begins his 1st year as a Scrapper Head Coach.  Mason is currently a Junior at Bethel College and comes to us from Illinois where he played HS baseball.  

John Gast – 13U Field Manager

John begins his 5th season with the Scrappers.  John's team has been one of the top teams in the entire state of Indiana.  In 2016 they claimed the BPA World Series Championship and in the 2017 they were crowned USSSA State Champions.  



Todd Fizer – 13U Black Field Manager

Todd will begin his 1st season with the Scrappers Organization after a successful stint with the Penn Park Jr Kingsmen.  Fizer brings a wealth of baseball knowledge as he was a member of the Penn High School 1994 State Championship team.


Mike Gallo – 12U Field Manager

Mike is entering his 5th year with the Scrapper Organization.  After assisting John Traxler  and the 12U Black for 2 years with his older son Carter, Mike was chosen to become the head field manager for the 9U and his son, Brady.  He also has a daughter, Ava, who plays on the 8U Scrapper softball team.  Mike is currently teaching middle school social studies for Bremen Public Schools, but has taught for 10 years at Niles Community Schools and worked 2 years as an administrator at Xavier School of Excellence in South Bend.  In addition to coaching baseball, Mike has 9 years of boys basketball coaching experience from the middle school level to serving as a varsity assistant.  


Keith Traxler– 12U Black Field Manager

Keith begins his 2nd season with the Scrappers Organization.  Keith will be a tremendous asset to our younger players as he spends a great deal of time on the development of each athlete.


Brian Blondell– 11U Field Manager

Blondell, Director of the Scrappers Organization and also 15U Head Field Manager, will Co-Head Coach this team moving into the 2018 season.  He will be assisted by several high quality individuals as the summer progresses.  Those individuals include Scott Rost (Head Coach Elkhart Memorial HS and longtime Scrappers Head Coach); Chad Sherwood (former college standout at Anderson University); Josh Bailey (former Head Coach at Grace College) and Herb Janke. 


Ryan Wilson– 10U Black Field Manager

This will be Ryan's 1st season as a Scrappers manager after spending the 2017 season as an Assistant Coach.  


Tim Rerick– 10U Field Manager

Rerick will begin his 4th season with the Scrappers Organization.  Rerick started with a 7U team and has built his team into one of the better teams in Northern Indiana.  


Travis Baird– 9U Black Field Manager

Travis will begin his 2nd season with the Scrappers Organization.  In 2017 Baird was the Head Coach of the 9U team that will be 10U in 2018.  Travis has a long history of coaching at the youth levels and brings a great deal of energy to the game of baseball.
